Kids can play from 2:00 to 3:00 pm and adults can play from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. All adult capoeira players are encouraged to come and play with the youth at 2:00 pm. This is an intergenerational event that is designed to build and preserve community and culture in the PNW.

This event is free to the public and made possible by  4Culture, Shunpike and Capoeira Life (NPO). Thank you and we hope to play capoeira with you very soon.

*Capoeira is an African-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. It was developed in Brazil at the beginning of the 16th century by enslaved Africans seeking to win their liberation. It is known for its quick and complex maneuvers, predominantly using intelligence, guile, strength, speed, and leverage across a wide variety of kicks, spins, flips and other techniques.

The roda is a circle formed by capoeira players and musical instruments, where every participant sings songs and claps their hands following the music. Two capoeira players enter the roda and play the game according to the style required by the musical rhythm.

Our not-for-profit program Capoeira Life is fiscally sponsored by Shunpike.
