Capoeira Programs

Adults

The Masters and Professors at the Washington Capoeira Center have developed the most beginner friendly Capoeira program in the United States. Mestre Mangangá and Professor Galo have crafted an intricate movement curriculum that will allow new students to immediately step into live Capoeira games, while simultaneously challenging students of experience to improve to higher levels of difficulty and nuance.

Capoeira for Kids

Our Tacoma capoeira leader, Professor Galo (Omari Jarmon), brings to Tacoma the teachings of our Seattle headquarters, Seattle Capoeira Center, the largest youth and adults Capoeira program in the Pacific Northwest. In our mixed age format, students ages 4+ learn focus, discipline, and respect through the fundamentals of Capoeira.

This is an intergenerational event that is designed to build and preserve community and culture in the PNW.

This event is free to the public and made possible by  4Culture, Shunpike and Capoeira Life (NPO). Thank you and we hope to play capoeira with you very soon.

Capoeira is an African-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. It was developed in Brazil at the beginning of the 16th century by enslaved Africans seeking to win their liberation. It is known for its quick and complex maneuvers, predominantly using intelligence, guile, strength, speed, and leverage across a wide variety of kicks, spins, flips and other techniques.

The roda is a circle formed by capoeira players and musical instruments, where every participant sings songs and claps their hands following the music. Two capoeira players enter the roda and play the game according to the style required by the musical rhythm.

This event is free and made possible by our not-for-profit wing Capoeira Life, is fiscally sponsored by Shunpike.
